Obviously e-readers are turning bookstores into scrap, just like how iTunes turned shopping mall music stores into wig shops. Eventually, the same will happen to video games I believe (watch out GameStop).
So what is Barnes & Noble going to do with all of their real estate? I'm sitting in one right now, and I've noticed their cafe's register is ringing much more than the bookstore. Why not gradually remove all the books and become a large cafe? The coffee's good, and the pizza moderate.
